Part 1. LWord came along at a time when I had serious questions about myself. I was having sex with a woman on a regular basis yet continued to self identify as straight. Yes, I told myself that what we had was just experimental sex and we both would get over it, and marry men.
Watching and finding common ground with the characters of the LWord helped me admit to myself first who I really am. I am not a straight woman who has simply not found the right man to win my affection and sweep me off my feet. I am a gold star lesbian who has ALWAYS loved women. I love women. Everything about us, I love.
No telivision show or movie that gave a small role to a gay or lesbian who maybe had 10 lines or a small insignificant part hoping to attract a few queer dollars, was able to accomplish that for me.
While I have yet to find the courage to come out to the public and my frenz & fam, I consider coming out to myself to be an accomplishment that leaves me greatly indebted to the makers of the LWord. I have found a strength that feeds my soul a daily dose of happiness and contentment like I've never felt before. Now I know what makes me happy and I am empowered to find “my Her“. To all who have a part in the making of LWord, thank you.

Part 3. Ladies, I want to attempt to encourage you if I may. Just because the show is gone, don’t allow the absence of this thing that has inspired and empowered you cause you to grow faint in heart. Let this experience propel you to a life of courage and the fulfillment of dreams. If you don’t find the courage to be an open lesbian, it’s OK. You need not be held hostage to definitions. Just find courage to be a WOMAN in a most excellent way, because life is what you make it. Please, please, please, make it good. Good for you first, and good for the one(s) waiting for you.
You will not be forever confined to the limits of a computer and TV screen as the only sense of community. If you go out and achieve the things you desire, and give in a way like never before, I assure you, community will find you. In some form or fashion. Maybe you are not meant to live as the LWord characters, 95% surrounded by people just like you or who celebrate your differences. If that is what you are looking for then you will be severely disappointed.
This show was sent to give you a start. At the end of the season, it and all involved will have done what they are to do. Now it’s time for you to do what you are to do. As we have all been given a gift and a light, it is not for us to put our light under a table and our gift in a box to be kept secret. Share your gift, no none has to know from whence your inspiration has come.
May the force be with you
