She made her debut on the big screen in Children of a Lesser God, earning an Academy Award® for Best Actress. At age 20 in 1986, she was the youngest ever to win in that category.Matlin has since appeared frequently on television in such programs as Reasonable Doubts, Picket Fences, The West Wing and Seinfeld.
