According to Kate French, at one point, Niki was strongly considering outing herself as a lesbian to the public but when she took her career into consideration, decided it was best that she remain in the closet. Is very easily persuaded by her management and agent to maintain a heterosexual public image.

▲ Possible motive: Jenny outs her in a magazine article and she loses a lucrative movie deal.
Cause: Being previously close to Jenny, Niki knew she had a phobia of pink cartoon characters, so she enlists all of her deadbeat friends to dress up in Plushy Pink Panther costumes and prance in uniform steps around the pool, molting a little fur and raising a jazzy eyebrow here and there. With no escape evident, Jenny senses a literary opportunity, grabs her laptop from the side of the pool and begins to write about Jerry's experience of the Puce Pool Panthers. Niki meanwhile had remotely accessed Jenny's laptop and senses her plan might not be working, so she hops out of the bushes and shoots her. Dancing like extras from The Kids From Fame, the Panthers disappear with Niki, consoling her that the Pink Panther idea wasn't that ****, it's just that the gun was probably more effective.

Cause: Jenny calling her over for a night of rough revenge sex, only to tell her she's a spoiled, selfish brat.

Both Niki and Shane try to apoligise and explain themselves but Jenny ignored them and her final words to them were "This the ultimate betrayal..you've broken my heart", however, it is not entirely clear to whom the words were directed at.

    I have seen "Long Night's Journey Into Day" several times, including the scene where Nikki comes home and she is so angry she deletes someone who sides with Jenny as being very hurt to tell Nikki the relationship was nothing but a fling that served its purpose now that the filming was finished. Jenny was justifiably angry, and frankly sick of Nikki's infidelities, and that wasn't the first infidelity. There was Greg, there was Shane, and then Nikki comes back with her soft Cocker Spaniel brown eyes and says, "I'm so sorry, Jenny! I was drunk!"

    The way Nikki took the rejection gives me the feeling she might have a part in Jenny's demise. This might be because Nikki is twenty as well. She is till very naive, and still has the level of thinking of, "Why doesn't everybody love me if I love them? Why doesn't everybody forgive me even when I hurt them? Why can't I just give someone whose heart I have broken my beautiful smile and spark my sweet Cocker Spaniel eyes and melt their heart?" Sorry, Nikki. You might have to give up that ego trip so you can learn how to function as an adult. Yes, you are beautiful and sweet, and you dress like a goddess, and all that, and the other day I saw someone who resembled you, and so on, but I think you decided to put your intelligence on a back burner for your own self-gratification, and that wears thin after a while.
