"It was always much more "in lust" between Bette and Jodi. They had great sex together, had their art in common, and met at Bette's new job. Jodi told Bettte when they met that she was not monogamous, but I think Bette - while subconsciously missing Tina - enjoyed the "chase" of getting Jodi to somewhat commit. Also, it was always Bette's friends that Jodi was with, and it was oibvious from the beginning of their relationship that Bette and Jodi were very different people. In the car on the way to the lake, Jodi did tell Bette that these people were her best friends and sort of hinted to Bette to basically expect anything. I'm sure that Bette did feel uncomfortable and out of place, but she could have put a little more effort into being friendly, particularly when Jodi was always warm and kind to Bette's friends, Bette's sister and Bette's daughter. I am not character assasinating, but Bette is a very ambitious, Type A personality. She is a very wealthy woman, and seems much more comfortable in an upper level of society where her professional life and her social life blend together. Although there is probably no difference between Bette and Jodi financially speaking, Jodi is much more laid back and does not really care what people think of her, especially the other members of the faculty. The things that Jodi says and does seems to embarass Bette, so regardless of Tina, Bette and Jodi would never last as a long-term relationship. However, I think that Jodi realizes Bette is still in love with Tina, and that is why Jodi brought Tina into the house to sleep after the pool party. Jodi would probably feel relieved if Bette and Tina got back together because it would let Jodi off the hook of feeling guilty when she leaves Bette, and Jodi is going to leave sooner rather than later. That was totally evident when Bette left the party, but first accused Jodi of flirting when Jodi did not want to leave the party wth Bette."
